an ode to tank tops
Easy, chic, and adaptable - the ribbed singlet is the style chameleon we just can’t quit…
Look, we all love a basic. Add ‘universally flattering’, ‘cheap’ (for the most part), and ‘doesn’t require an iron’ and we’re practically obsessed. Naturally then, we consistently have a couple on high-rotation and we’re always in the market for a newie. Not yet on this iconic bandwagon? Where the bloody hell have you been? Ask any tastemaker from the last forever and you’ll see one common denominator - an affection and respect for the basics, including the subtly sexy, continuously underestimated and thankfully accessible ribbed tank top. As we’re puritans, we prefer ours in white a la Zoe Kravitz, but we’re also partial to black, and even marle grey in a pinch. From a trusty Bonds 2 pack (you can pick up at the supermarket), all the way to Prada’s new season iteration, and Re/Done’s modern essential, there’s a version to fit everyone’s afterpay limit (or coin purse) AND might we say, a style to suit everyone’s figure. Another shiny lining? For the busty and nipple-conscious among us (although we do love to free the nip at any opportunity), Carrie’s favourite visible-bra-strap-under-a-singlet vibe is back in vogue. Just remember, lingerie choice matters - it must be white, black or bright, and preferably on the saucy side (we’re talking about lace people, not padding). Anyway, here are some being well worn (and some we’re currently trying to find an excuse to buy).
