Morgan Stewart said we can’t wear ankle boots anymore, so this is what we don instead

As an entrepreneur, taste-maker, and mum, Morgan Stewart, is good at a great many things, but her sense for pulling a noteworthy look together is second-to-none. Naturally then, when she talked (on none other than Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast), we listened and we’re not the only ones. In her own words, “you’re not doing yourself a favour. if you have an ankle boot, return it – they’re awful.”

The girl knows her boundaries, she’s fighting the good fight against unflattering cuts, and we love that for her (and for our ever-growing shoe collections). Here’s what’s filling the Pistol shaped hole and in our wardrobes in 2023.

Morgan Stewart Bottega Venetta Blue knee high boots

Boots, boots, and more boots, but they must be knee high…

Are you clutching your beloved ankle-biters to your chest while you’re reading this? Don’t stress! Knee high boots are the answer. Flat, cowboy, stilletto, or mid – as long as the top of the shaft of the boot comes right up to your knee, you’re in leg-lengthening heaven. Oh, and Morgan approves. Her baby blues above are from Bottega, but they’re out of most price-ranges, so we also love love love these from Paris Texas , this more demure black option from Toteme, and of course these classics from Hunter (yes, you can wear gumboots everywhere. We certainly do!).

Literally anything with a slingback

Ugh, we love a slingback. They feel so dainty and elegant and they really pack a punch sartorially. Amina Muaddi does them exceptionally well. Try these, and these (pink never goes out of style)!

Whatever kind of Mary-Jane we can find…

We really mean that, and while we love the drama of Morgan’s Valentino’s (above), there’s something so classic about these simple beauties from Doen.

Thigh high boots, but ONLY if they’re so tall they basically connect your legs to your hips

So here’s the tea according to the oracle herself: thigh-high boots with outfits that show most of your thigh are for women in their college era (so go bananas if that’s you),. Once you’ve emerged into the world, the rule is that your dress/pant/skirt should cover the top of them OR they should be so high that they’re basically pants. As someone with a bit of PTSD from her thigh-high boot wearing days, I have no purchase suggestions for you – but let Morgan and her picture above be your guide.

And finally, you can still keep (and wear) your ankle boots, but there are stipulations…

According to our lady and shoe saviour, one can only get away with ankle boots if you wear them underneath a long skirt or pant, or tucked into your jeans like above. Now obviously, we live in the delicious era of wear-what-you-want-society-be-damned, so take this all on board or ignore it wholeheartedly. But, if we can leave you with anything, it’s that no matter what you wear, it’s how you feel in it that really counts. Also, these boots from The Attico are fucking fabulous.
